Background of College
Yirgalem Poly Technic College is found in the newly established Sidama National Regional State Central Sidama Zone which is located 315 Kilometers away from Addis Abeba and 47 kms from Hawassa, which is capital of Sidama National Regional State with the total establishment area of 30,000 kare meters with a total of 27 Staffs with which 18 qualified and multi-disciplined trainers and 9 administrative staffs training in areas of IEMD, BEI, Accounting, HRM, Hotel and Tourism, Secretarial Science, Surveying Technology and ICT.
The College is one of the oldest colleges in Ethiopia, was established in 1996 E.C/2003 G.C which was separated from Yirgalem High School in the late Southern Nations Nationalities Regional State (SNNPRS) following governmental clear focus on the realization of the importance of technical and vocational accusations of young generation in Yirgalem City and Woredas around Yirgalem i.e. Dale Woreda, Loka Abaya Woreda and Wensho Woreda the needy community around TVET holds the key to technological progress, rapid industrialisation, wealth creation and poverty reduction and TVET is understood as comprising formal education and training and non-formal skills development relating to a wide range of occupational fields, production, services and livelihoods.
As the establishment proclamation states, the college has a clear vision and mission to deliver quality based vocational and technical skill acquisitions at middle level competent trainees with which the curriculums that have been developed based on the needs of the industry. With this the college also has a mission to capacitate the Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs) in the areas of Skill Gap, Entrepreneurship, Technology Transfer and Kaizen to transfer them to higher level industrialists.
Since its establishment the college has been experiencing occupational changes to come up with ever changing and flexible needs of vocational technical and skill accusation of the industry. Currently, based on the current needs and zooning structures and differentiation of the areal catchment i.e. the climatic condition, the college is delivering demand driven and high quality, in occupation areas of Agro processing, Water Supply, Mechanics, Garment, Hotel and Tourism, Information Communication Technology,
